How Does a Jaw Crusher Work?

A jaw crusher is a critical piece of equipment in the mining and construction industries, primarily used for the initial crushing of large rocks and ores. Its design and operation are based on the principles of compressive force, which allows it to break down large materials into smaller, more manageable pieces.

The operation of the jaw crusher mainly relies on the eccentric shaft to drive the movable jaw plate to perform periodic reciprocating motion, thereby achieving the crushing of materials. The specific process is as follows:

Starting stage:

After the power is turned on, the motor starts to run and transmits power to the eccentric shaft through the belt and pulley. In this process, the eccentric shaft will produce rotational motion, providing a power source for subsequent crushing actions.

Crushing process:

Moving jaw rises: When the eccentric shaft rotates, it drives the movable jaw connected to it to move upward. At this time, the angle between the toggle plate and the movable jaw becomes larger, and the movable jaw plate gradually approaches the fixed jaw plate. In the process of the two jaw plates gradually approaching, the material between them is squeezed, rubbed, and crushed, and preliminary crushing is achieved.

Moving jaw descends: As the eccentric shaft continues to rotate, the movable jaw begins to move downward, and the angle between the toggle plate and the movable jaw becomes smaller. The movable jaw plate leaves the fixed jaw plate under the action of the pull rod and spring. At this time, the material that has been initially crushed is discharged from the lower opening of the crushing chamber under the action of gravity.

Continuous operation: The motor rotates continuously, causing the movable jaw to perform periodic crushing and discharging actions, continuously crushing and discharging the materials entering the crushing chamber, thereby achieving batch production.

In short, the jaw crusher completes the crushing of materials through the periodic relative movement of the movable jaw plate and the fixed jaw plate, as well as the gravity of the material itself. Its crushing method is a curved extrusion type。
